Introduction of Guangdong Medical University

Guangdong Medical University (GDMU) was founded in 1958 and consistsof two campuseswith a total area of about 127 hectares. Zhanjiang Campus islocated in the city of Zhanjiang, the central city of subtropical coastalregion and Dongguan Campus is situated in the beautiful Songshan Lake Scienceand Technology Industrial Park, the city of Dongguan.

GDMU was approved as a doctoral degreeawarding institution in 2013. Both the university and the discipline of ClinicalMedicine have been listed among the global top 1% in ESI (Essence of ScientificIndicators) ranking. Since 2019, the university has been listed in CWUR andUSNEWS World University Rankings.

GDMU currently has an enrollment of nearly20,000 full-time students, 14 schools (departments), 6 affiliated hospitals, 12non-affiliated clinical medical schools and 27 non-affiliated teaching hospitals.GDMU has gradually evolved to be a comprehensiveuniversity with seven disciplines, including medicine, science, management,engineering, literature, law and economics. At present, there are 1 primarydiscipline authorized for doctoral degree, namely clinical medicine, 6 primarydisciplines authorized for master's degree, namely clinical medicine, basic medicalsciences, public healthand preventive medicine, medical technology, pharmacy and biology.

GDMU currently has 1289 full-time teachers,including 49 doctoral supervisors, 751 master supervisors and 2dual-employedacademician. Also, it has an excellent teaching and scientific research environment,with 2 scientific research centers, 4 provincial level key laboratories andengineering technology research centers, 18 municipal level key laboratories,and 1 postdoctoral research station.

Over the past 62 years, GDMU has educated more than 200,000 medical professionals working atvarious medical institutions in Guangdong and other provinces in China. Weadhere to the concept of open education and have maintained close contact andcooperation with universities and scientific research institutes in the UnitedStates, Great Britain, Germany, Australia, Japan, Finland, Poland, Malaysiaetc., together with those in Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan. The university adheresto the official motto of "Ambition, Virtue, Truth, Excellence", andis committed to constructing a high-level medical university with distinctivecharacteristics, top-ranking among the domestic counterparts and well-known athome and abroad, so as to provide intellectual, scientific and technicalsupport for the medical and health-care undertakings as well as the overall economicand social development.

I.Eligibility of Application

1. Master’s Degree Candidates:under the age of 35, with a degree equivalent to the Bachelor's Degree inChinese Universities, non-Chinese citizens with a foreign passport.

2. Doctor’s Degree Candidates:under the age of 40, with a degree equivalent to the Master's Degree of ChineseUniversities, non-Chinese citizens with a foreign passport.

III. Language Requirements

English Medium Program: Applicants from non-English-speakingcountries should have the certificate of TOEFL IBT90 or IELTS 6.5 or above orequivalent language proficiency. If the highest degree program was taught inEnglish, the certificate of the relevant education conducted in English medium shallbe provided.

Chinese Medium Program: Applicants should have the certificatewith a score of 180 or above in the New HSK Test of Level 5 (within thevalidity time of 2 years) or other comparable certificates proving Chineseproficiency. If the highest degree program was taught in Chinese, thecertificate of the relevant education conducted in Chinese medium shall beprovided.

. Application Instructions

1. The applicants are required to submit the first to the tenthelectronic application materials in Article ."Application Materials"to studygdmu@gdmu.edu.cn, and we will proofread the application materials for preliminaryreview;

2. After receiving the Notice of Prequalification from theuniversity, the applicants shall pay the application fee, and then submit thefirst to the seventeenth hard copy application materials in the "ApplicationMaterials" form. The printout application materials can be submitted by himselfor entrusted by others, or sent by express to the Office of International Cooperationand Exchanges of Guangdong Medical University. The materials shall arrive beforeJuly 20, 2020, otherwise it will be deemed as waiver ofapplication.

Financial  Support Guarantee Statement for the International Student

Please  refer to Appendix 6. It must be filled in Chinese or English, and provide the  deposit documents (the deposit amount shall not be less than 100000 RMB) that  can guarantee the reasonable expenses for study, life, international travel  and other expenses. The scanning copy of the sponsor’s passport or ID  (relatives only)is required, refer to Appendix 6

. Audit and Admission

Afterthe applicants’ materials are completely submitted,GDMU will carry out the comprehensive evaluation and assessment of theapplication materials in combination with the comprehensive requirements of themajor which the applicant applies for after the preliminary reviews.

Thespecific assessment method, time and other issues shall be notified by theOffice of International Cooperation and Exchanges, GDMU.

Theresults will be announced by official email in early August 2020. Letter of Admission and the visa applicationform for study in China, JW202, will be mailed to the applicant by the Officeof International Cooperation and Exchanges, GDMU.

Afterreceiving Letter of Admission and JW202 form, the applicant shall bring the abovementioned materials and theoriginal and copies of the physical examination record, passport etc. and go tothe Chinese embassy (consulate general) to apply for a study visa in China .

.Arrival Time

The arrival time will be scheduled during September 2020tentatively and the specific registration date shall be informed by the Letter ofAdmission and the formal notice sent by the official E-mail.

According to the time limit stipulated in the Letter ofAdmission, the admitted student should bring the original materials such as theLetter of Admission, the visa application form JW202, passport and physical examination form etc. to the Officeof International Cooperation and Exchanges, GDMU for registration. Those who areunable to arrive on time should obtain the consent of the office in advance. Forthose who fail to arrive within the time limit without approval, their candidatestatus would be terminated automatically.

.Charging Standard

1.Registration fee: 500 RMB/ person, registration fee isnon-refundable

2. Tuition fee:

(1)Doctoral program (Research-type):

38,000 RMB / academic year for English medium, 32,000 RMB /academic year for Chinese medium

(2)Master degree program (Research-type):

33,000 RMB/ academic year for English medium,

27,000 RMB/ academic year for Chinese medium.

3. Accommodation fee:

6000 RMB/ person/ bed(double room)/ academic year

4. Other expenses: Fees for teaching materials, physicalexamination, medical treatment, comprehensive insurance, residence permit,accommodation, water and electricity, network, etc. shall be paid by theinternational students themselves.

5.The specific charging amount shall be subject to the priceapproved by the provincial government.

. Scholarships

Guangdong Medical University set up Scholarship for InternationalPostgraduate Students to support excellent students to study at GDMU. Besides,excellent international students are also eligible to apply for Guangdong GovernmentOutstanding International Student Scholarship.

. Reminder

1. All application materials and information submitted byapplicants must be authentic and valid, consistent with the fact andoriginalversions;

2. Applicants are required to provide a financial guarantee for thetuition and other the essential expenses for studying, living at GuangdongMedical University. According to the living standard of Guangdong Province, theliving expenses are about 1500-2000 Yuan per month;

3. During the period of evaluating the application materials,please keep the phone on to ensure that the staffcan contact the applicant in time;

4. During the period of studying in China,international students must comply with Chinese laws and regulations, respectChinese customs and habits, and abide by rules and regulations issued by theuniversity;

5. The university respects the national customs and religiousbeliefs of international students, but does not provide places for religiousactivities. Religious activities such as missionary activities, religiousgatherings, etc. are not allowed on the campus;

6. International students are not allowed to work, do businessor engage in other business activities during their study at the university;

7. Applicants should not conceal their medical history. Afterarrival, international students shall go to the designated health andquarantine department for physical examination in accordance with theprovisions of the Chinese health administrative department;

8. International students are required to pay tuition andaccommodation fees before arrival or on the date of registration.

9. International students must purchase insurance in accordancewith the relevant regulations and requirements of the government and GuangdongMedical University; otherwise the university will withdraw the student’senrollment or refuse his or her registration.
