The predecessor of School of Foreign Languages, GDMC is the Foreign Language Teaching and Researching Office of our university, which belonged to the School of Medical Basic Sciences, we opened a medical English major in 2005 and began to enrollment of English majors, the Foreign Language Department of Guangdong Medical College was set up in 2011, then it became an independent foreign language teaching and research department, and the School of Foreign Languages, GDMC was established in December,2014.

The School of Foreign Languages owns 3 departments and offer courses of English major, college English to undergraduates and graduates, and Japanese elective courses to more than 10,000 students, including about 400 English majors, with two professional emphasizes ofmedical English, and international tourism and hospitality management.

We have 55 full-time teachers, 4 teaching assistants and technicians, and 7 foreign teachers, 2 professors, 13 associate professors, mainly are young and middle-aged scholars, the age echelon is relatively reasonable, teaching and researching ability among the faculty are both powerful.

In recent years, the pass rate of CET-4 remains above 80%, and that of the TEM-4 and TEM-8 are well above the national average by 20 or more percentage points, Employment rate of the English majors has been maintained at more than 95%. In 2014, the faculty of our school won one of the first prizes for teaching achievement at the provincial level, one of the first prizes for teaching achievement at the University (GDMC) level, our students won many prizes in the national college students' English contest, college students' English debating competition, contest of college students' English translation, and college students' English writing contest at all levels.

The faculty in our school have completed more than 150 scientific research projects; published more than 180 pieces of academic papers, including 15 in core journals. The English language Research institute in our school keeps carrying out relative researches and achieved a series of fruits.

With the comprehensive study of the talent market demand in Pearl River Delta and West Guangdong area, we have established the training mode of "the language ability and professional medical knowledge (knowledge of tourism and hotel management) of innovative plus modern comprehensive quality" , and strive to cultivate the compound talents of foreign languages, and applied this concept into the college English teaching, promoted the development of general medical knowledge and industry-oriented English teachingin order to enable the students to masterthe professional knowledge and meanwhile strong professional English ability.

★English (Medical English) (4 years)

This major aims to cultivate practical English professionals with solid English basic skills, broad international vision, specialized medical knowledge and strong critical thinking skills as well as intercultural communication ability in medicine related careers.

Curriculum:English grammar and writing, communicative English (1), basic English (2), English rhetoric and writing, news audio-visual English, medical English reading, English and American literature, English society and culture, the theory and practice of translation, English interpretation, Medical English translation, the second foreign language (2, Japanese / French).

★English (InternationalHospitality and Tourism Management) (4 years)

This major aims to cultivate practical English professionals with solid English ability, international tourism and hotel management knowledge, and broad international perspective, they can shoulder the tourism-related and hotel management work in the international business environment with the knowledge from the English language and literature, tourism management, international trade, economics, strong critical thinking skills and cross-cultural communication skills.

Curriculum:Management Science, Communicative English (1), Basic English (2), English rhetoric and writing, English News listening and speaking, Travel English reading, translation theory and practice, English society and culture, business English interpretation, Business English Writing, Anglo Literary History and Readings, tourism and Hospitality English translation, second language (2, Japanese / French)
