Graduate School was approved by the Ministry of Education as the graduate admission unit in 1985 which recruits Surgery (Plastic Surgery), Pathophysiology, and Biochemistry. In 1986, it was among the third batch of master degree granting units authorized by the State Council Academic Degrees Committee. In 1995, Dermatology and Venereology, Internal Medicine (kidney disease), Internal Medicine (blood), Pharmacology and Clinical Laboratory Diagnostics are granted with master degrees, which were later supplemented by Physiology in 1998, Pathogen Biology in 2000, and Neurology and Otorhinolaryngology in 2003. In 2002, master’s degree granting for in-service personnel was authorized. In 2003, it was listed as the training unit for master's degree granting in Clinical Medicine and in 2010, master's degree is granted in Clinical Medicine. Currently, there are one A-level discipline and five B-level discipline with master’s degree granting, covering most of the clinical and basic sciences.
In addition to making full use of its teaching resources, the college also strengthened cooperation with universities, research institutes at home and abroad. Currently, postgraduates and advisors have reached a certain scale. There are 29 joint postgraduate training base and 12 teaching points for students with equivalent learning ability.
It is abundant in clinical teaching resources. Zhanjiang affiliated hospital provides nearly 20 million capacity of clinical specialty services with existing 2100 beds. With complete disease kinds and unique treatments, the technologies in every specialty reach domestic advanced level. First Clinical School also provides an advanced training center of clinical skills. In addition, 29 joint postgraduate training bases distributed across the province provide a useful supplement for graduate clinical teaching resources.
The graduates are generally well received by employers. In 2010, it won for the first time Outstanding Master's Degree Thesis in Guangdong Province. During the past three years, postgraduate students have issued more than 20 SCI papers in authoritative journals likeCell Oncology (IF: 4.169)andAnal Biochem (IF: 3.287). 15 postgraduates are honored with the "Guangdong Outstanding Graduate" title.
