School of Public Health was founded in May 2006, with 5 specialties of Preventive Medicine (Environmental and Occupational Health, Nutrition and Food Hygiene, Frontier Health and Quarantine and Health Inspection), Health Inspection,Statistics (biostatistics direction), Health Inspection and Food Quality and Safety. It now has an enrollment of 1,708 students. There are 4 departments: Epidemiology and Biostatistics, Occupational and Environmental Health, Nutrition and Food Hygiene, Health Inspection. It also has an experimental Teaching Center of public Health (provincial demonstration center), Institute for environment and Health, and Institute for Medical Systems Biology as well.

It has an excellent teaching group with a reasonable structure. Currently, the school has a staff of 45 people including 31 full-time teachers. 17 teachers have PhD. The school places great emphasis on teaching, scientific research and the overall development of students. A variety of activities have been carried out such as campus culture, sports athletics, social practice, voluntary service, technological innovation and so on, which enriched school life and promoted the healthy growth of students. The school of public health encourages students to participate in research projects. In the past three years, the students have won 53 prizes for excellent researches at national, provincial and school levels. The school has established 91 teaching bases for social practice.

★ Preventive Medicine (5 years)

This major aims to train high-qualified and preventive medicine professionals who master the foundation of modern medical science, clinical medicine, preventive medicine, organizational skills, creativity and ability to solve practical problems, which prepare them for the work of disease prevention and control, health care, health promotion, community health services and so on.

The main courses includephysiology, biochemistry, pharmacology, microbiology, immunology, diagnosis, internal medicine, epidemiology, health statistics, environmental health, occupation health and occupation medicine, nutrition and food hygiene, hygienic toxicology.

★Statistics (four years)

This major aims to prepare the students with a solid foundation of mathematics, mathematical statistics and biostatistics, proficiency in programming and statistical software application, high foreign language skills, and mastery of biology, medical background knowledge. After graduation, they can become advanced talents to be capable in work of biomedical and health statistics, market research fields such as teaching, scientific research and application work. This major also cultivate qualified statistic analysis talents for biomedical fields, conveying and high quality students for further study of health statistics graduate.

Curriculum: Higher mathematics, linear algebra, probability theory and mathematical statistics, biostatistics and SPSS software application, medical multivariate statistics and SAS software application, epidemiology, C++ language programming, database principle and application

★Health Inspection and Quarantine (four years)

This major aims to cultivate technical personnel with solid health inspection and quarantine theories, and qualified skills in aspects of health inspection of microorganism, clinical inspection, import and export quarantine, animal and plant quarantine, product quality supervision, food safety testing and management, and environmental monitoring. They have the abilities to discover and solve problems, and the spirit of innovation. This major also aims to cultivate health inspectors to engage in public health surveillance, health inspection, clinical examination, the factory quality inspection and control, commercial inspection, customs inspection and quarantine work. They will be qualified in scientific research units and educational institutions.

Curriculum: Chemical analysis, instrumental analysis, water quality inspection, physicochemical analysis of air, food physical chemical testing, microbiological analysis, biological material testing, immunology and immunological test, health inspection and quarantine, hygienic toxicology

★Food Quality and Safety (four years)

This major aims to cultivate students who grasp the basic theory of food safety science, food quality and safety inspection technology, food safety and control technology and skills, being familiar with food safety and quality control system, food production standards and regulations. Students are cultivated to engage in food safety inspection, supervision production management, and food safety evaluation and certification.

Curriculum: organic chemistry, analytical chemistry, biological chemistry, instrumental analysis, food microbiology, food nutrition, food hygiene, food physical and chemical inspection, food technology, food quality and safety management
