The 9th Membership Conference of the Guangdong Pharmacological Society and the 2021 Academic Conference was held in Jiangmen, Guangdong on October 22-24.
The joint research project named "Basic Research on the Application of Salvia Miltiorrhiza Polyphenols in Multi-target Prevention and Treatment of Osteoporosis" was awarded as the second prize of the Science and Technology Achievement Award by the Guangdong Pharmacological Society. The research was completed by Prof. Cui Liao's team, which includes Daohua Xu, Yajun Yang, Yanzhi Liu, Bilian Xu, Yuyu Liu, Shiying Luo from the School of Pharmacy and Cui Yang from Department of Rheumatology and Immunology, Guangdong Provincial People's Hospital.
Professor Cui Liao’s team has dedicated to the bone pharmacology research for a long time. Her team has established a variety of osteoporosis models, focusing on the pharmacodynamics and mechanism of active ingredient from traditional Chinese medicine and natural medicine on bone and joint degenerative diseases.
The research awarded by Guangdong Pharmacological Society proves the anti-osteoporotic effects of Danshen and its water-soluble polyphenolic compounds (danshensu and salvianol B), and further clarifies the potential mechanism of its multi-target and multiple network regulation of bone metabolism signaling pathways.
The research provided a new promising strategy for osteoporosis treatment, especially for the disease-related bone metabolic abnormalities. The research project provided substantial experimental and theoretical basis for the application and promotion of the new use of Salvia miltiorrhiza and its preparations as the original use of the traditional Chinese cardiovascular medicine.
Prof. Liu Yanzhi, a member of Prof. Liao Cui’s team, was invited to give an academic report titled "Effects of Notch Signal Pathway Inhibitors and its Functional Hydrogels on Osteoarthritis" on the conference.
Li Yuyun, a graduate student supervised by Professor Xu Daohua , gave an academic report entitled "Sigma2 receptor ligand A011 anti-breast cancer activity and mechanism research" on this conference, and this report was awarded as the third prize of excellent paper in pharmacology of Guangdong Province Pharmacology Society.
Prof. Cui Liao and Prof. Lu Chengyu were elected for the second time as managing directors of the 9th Guangdong Pharmacological Society, and Prof. Li Baohong and Prof. Xu Daohua were elected as directors of Guangdong Pharmacological Society.
