2021 marks the 20th anniversary of the establishment of Songshan Lake Hi-Tech Industrial Development Zone, and is also the first year for the pilot zone of the comprehensive national science center in the GBA (Songshan Lake Science City) to fully start its construction.

    On December 9th, Zeng Zhirong, vice president of the University, received the award of “Enterprises and Institutions with Outstanding Contributions to Songshan Lake in the Past 20 years”on behalf of the University at the ceremony of celebrating the 20th anniversary of Songshan Lake Hi-Tech Industrial Development Zone, which is a kind of affirmation and commendation for the outstanding contribution made by Guangdong Medical University to Songshan Lake.

    Dongguan Songshan Lake campus of Guangdong Medical University, which was founded in 2002, is one of the earliest units settled in the Zone. Over the past 19 years, Guangdong Medical University has grown together with the Zone and developed into a university with a complete talent training system for “bachelor, master, doctor(PhD) and postdoctoral researcher”. Now it is a key discipline construction University of high-level universities in Guangdong Province and one of the top 1% Universities in the world of USNEWS and ESI ranking. It also provides strong support and impetus for scientific and technological innovation, talent training, public health and pharmaceutical industry upgrading in Songshan Lake Zone.

    Dongguan Songshan Lake campus owns a large number of high-level talents, including 288 teachers with the doctor degree, which is one of the units with the largest number of doctor degree holders in Songshan Lake Zone.Since 2003, nearly 60,000 students have studied here and in recent three years, 1348 graduates choose to stay and work in Dongguan, accounting for 15.9% of the total number of graduates in this campus.

    Lu Jinghui, both the secretary of the Party Committee of Guangdong Medical University and the President said: “Songshan Lake Hi-Tech Industrial Development Zone has developed for 20 years and Guangdong Medical University has accompanied it for 19 years. As one of the pioneers, participants and witnesses of the construction and development of the Zone, it will continue to give full play to the advantages of a medical university by building platforms, gathering talents, strengthening scientific research and supporting promising industries, and making new and greater contributions to the construction of Songshan Lake Hi-Tech Industrial Development Zone into an original innovation highland with global influence.
